Cartoon - Infinite Power
"Now, before you assess the prototype for infinitely
renewable energy let's keep in mind the size of the
budget you gave me to work with…"

Christmas Card 2010
outside
inside
Each year I like to design my own Christmas card for friends and family. It seems to be a traditional thing with cartoonists. After all, why buy a card with a cartoon on it if I can draw my own? So, here is this year's design from the Bramble Vine studio.

Cartoon - Catapult
"Hey, stop messing around with my catapult!"
"It's a trebuchet you idiot."
An easy mistake to make. Although, if a dog was smart enough to acquire one you'd think he'd be smart enough to know the difference. Just another one of those cartoony mysteries.

Cartoon - Sugar Birds
"All that sugar water can't be good for the poor dears.
Use artificial sweetener instead!"
Hummingbirds can eat all the sugar they want. Not fair. Not fair at all.

Sketchbook - Riding the Train
A new train line recently started running here in Dallas, the DART Green line. One of the new stops is very close to the office where I work, so I've started commuting on the train. I've been riding it for the past two weeks and I'm really enjoying it. No more having to fight traffic or deal with non-functioning traffic lights or hunting for the cheapest gas. I figured out that I'll save about $110 a month in gas alone by riding the train instead of driving.
I feel like I've been given two hours a day of my life back by being able to sit and relax on my way to work. I've already finished three books and have been able to get some sketching done. Here you can see some of the recent sketches and cartoons I've done while riding the rails to and from work.

Cartoon - Clown School
"I've never seen a technique like his either. He must've
been home clown schooled."
If there can be a Clown College, why not home schooling as well?

Cartoon - Doggy Pants
"Maximillion Alowishious P. Q. Doggypants wishes to
engage in a vigorous round of… 'fetch' "
Of course a dog with a name like that would have a personal butler. Of course.
Cartoon - Movie Depth
"They should have tried adding depth to
the writing instead."
I'm really quite over the whole 3D movie gimmicky trend. It was neat at first, at least in films that were actually shot that way, but at this point I don't think it adds that much to movies. Other than to the ticket price of course.

Cartoon - Mad Knitter
The Mad Midnight Knitter strikes again.
I read a story about someone that was actually doing this in the dead of night in a town back east. I'm sure that whoever it is they look like this. Obviously.

Cartoon - Clown Car
"I suppose from this angle it does sort of
look like a clown car."
If more cars looked like that from behind I think more people would find a way to use public transportation. I know I wouldn't want to stare at that stuck in traffic.

Cartoon - Fan Mail
"I am your biggest fan! I read your comic strips every day and
especially like it when the monkey yells 'YIPE' in that
high pitched squeaky voice."
I know that when I read comic strips I can certainly hear the character's voices in my head as I read their dialogue. You can't assume everyone hears the same voice in their own heads though.

Sketchbook Page
In this recent page from my sketchbook you may detect a hint of my nervousness about this afternoon's impending dentist appointment. I have an ache that I just know is going to turn into some serious chair time with good ol' Dr. Smiley. Le sigh.

Cartoon - Auto-Complete
"You auto-complete me."

Cartoon - The Collection
"I don't usually show girls my collection on the first date,
but I have a really good feeling about you."
Google image search is great for photo reference. For this cartoon I typed in "knife" and got all sorts of interesting designs. Some scary ones too. There's a certain depth to any interest where things start to get weird. People freak me out sometimes.
